Haikou lies in the North of Hainan Province, opposites peninsula of Leizhou of Guangdong Province and separated by Qiongzhou Strait, it is the politics , economy , culture , traffic centre of Hainan Province, the strand tourist city well-known at home and abroad. The area of Haikou covers about 218 sq.km, population about 600,000, 23.8 degrees Centigrade of temperature on average, the terrain is high in the south and low in the north, carry out the transition from tableland to plain.

There are passenger steamers to sail at Guangzhou , Zhanjiang , Beihai ,etc. port every day in the harbour of Haikou and Xiuying harbour, there is the liner that goes to Hong Kong direct. Domestic route flies nonstop to more than 30 cities , such as Guangzhou , Beijing , Shanghai and Hong Kong ,etc. at the airport of Haikou. Fly nonstop to Singapore , Bangkok ,etc. in the international airline. It is one pair of international air harbours in runway in the American blue International airport under construction. Inside the island most heavy river Nandu River enter sea from Haikou city the east.
